I've always been careful in selecting boutique-brand pieces - searching out both collector, and professional reviews, before making a buying decision. But this is my first foray into purchasing a crowd-funded watch.
And I certainly consider the V1-Gent to be just that, particularly when recognizing the brand's association with Egard (same principals, same design influences, etc,). I am a lover of boutique watch brands, owning twenty or so such pieces. (technically paper money for him since he hasn't sold his) This kind of money being made in the grey market is what allows and drives the scammy people.Please bear with me as I attempt to present details of this watch, and, of the buying experience of a crowd-funded timepiece. Kevin O'Leary of Shark Tank fame said of his blue 5711 it was the easiest money he has ever made. If you could buy one today at an AD you could undercut those listings sell the watch pay yourself back the cost and pay cash for a median-priced house and a new car with the profit. The demand is stratospheric and they are being listed at 10x retail. I'm second on my dealers list and he says I have about a 25% chance of getting one. If I get it I will keep it and sell my blue dial 5711 and pocket the difference.
I am on the list at my AD for the new Patek Nautilus 5711 with the olive dial. Mainly because it is a Hublot but the size and relatively conservative nature make it like a anti-Hublot. I now know I would regret getting rid of 90% of my accumulation and the remaining 10% I still enjoy and those are almost exclusively from brands that would be slow to sell and I would lose money own a perfect example is my Hublot 37mm Classic Fusion, I don't LOVE it but when it comes up in the rotation I still really like wearing it. From maybe 2005 to 2017 my accumulation changed monthly and then I cut myself off just because it was getting a little nuts (or a lot nuts). Glad you are bonding with the Pelagos I don't have the LHD but if I bought today I would get it instead of the original I have just for the roulette wheel date.
